Why nurses need a personal CRM
Shifts rotate, units change, people move to new hospitals and travel contracts. The colleagues and mentors who shape your career are spread across texts, group chats and old schedules, and it’s easy to lose touch with the people you’ll want later for a reference, a job lead or advice. A personal CRM keeps the people, what they told you and when to reach out in one place on your iPhone.
What nurses keep in BlackBook
- Preceptors and mentors, and the advice they gave you
- Charge nurses and managers who mentioned an opening or offered to be a reference
- Classmates and colleagues from past units and travel assignments
- Recruiters and instructors, and when to check back
- Birthdays, new babies and milestones for the friends you’ve made on the job
- Pulse, which suggests who to reach out to next from your notes, history and reminders
Never for patient information
BlackBook is for your own relationships, not patient care. Don’t add patient names, health details or anything from a chart. Patient information belongs only in your employer’s approved systems.

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep patient information in BlackBook?
No. BlackBook is not built for patient information and isn’t meant for it. Never add patient names, health details or anything from a chart. Patient information belongs only in your employer’s approved systems. BlackBook is for your own colleagues, mentors, friends and family.
Who do nurses keep in BlackBook?
Preceptors and mentors, charge nurses and former managers, classmates from nursing school, colleagues from past units and travel assignments, recruiters, instructors from certification courses, and the people you’d ask for a reference.
How does it help with my career?
Write down what a mentor suggested, who mentioned an opening, when a classmate finishes their program or who agreed to be a reference, and set a reminder to follow up. When you change units, go travel or apply to a new program, the right people are easy to find and you remember what they told you.
Is my data private?
BlackBook needs no account. Your people and notes live on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud, not on a BlackBook server. There are no ad SDKs, and your data is never sold.
Is BlackBook free?
BlackBook is free to download with a free plan of 25 people, two notes per person and 30 days of interaction history. BlackBook Pro is an optional subscription: in the US it’s $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, and the annual plan includes a 1-week free trial. Prices are shown in the app.
What iPhones does it run on?
BlackBook requires iOS 17.6 or later. On iOS 26 with a compatible iPhone, BlackBook Pro adds on-device Apple Intelligence features.
